Big Dave's pictures of our portage around Allagash Falls. The ice at the end was a surprise.
It was a 6 ft. drop to the river at the end.

Now for the 500+ mile ride home and a shower. I have 3 hours of video to edit next, tent and tarps to dry, coolers to clean, gear to put away and stories to tell when I get home.

THE THREE M'S

The three M's at take out in the town of Allagash. Two Mailers and one Machinist. Chris,me,and Marko

KILL AND GRILL

We practiced catch and release with the short Brookies and chubs. Legal size Brookies are a different story all together. A good friend lent me a smoker to use if fish where caught. Worked great and will borrow it again for the next time, and there will be a next time.

STAYED AT ALLAGASH FALLS TWO DAYS

As planned we spent two days at the Allagash Falls site. Great weather but still 28 Deg. at night. Maybe my thermometer is broken. I wear a N.E. Patriots knit hat to bed. Bloody Marys in morning. Captains at night. The portage at the falls is 1/3 of a mile. My canoe carrier works fine and everyone was happy with how it worked. I asked for ideas for improvements. Some said a motor and a steering wheel. I wanted a drink holder. The big surprise awaited us at the end of the portage. Six foot deep ice and snow with canvases to cross to get to the beach and river.

ON TO ALLAGASH FALLS

Another nice day along the AWW. Tried to fish, video, paddle, take pictures, and not run in to rocks in the white water. Did not work out for me. Had to give up something. It ended up me giving up my paddle. It got stuck under a rock and was pulled from my hand in the white water. Yes, I broke out the spare I had secured with Velcro and recovered my floating away paddle with out incident. Saw moose along the shore and an eagle swooping down and catching a fish, unlike me who caught tree limbs with my fly.

TURK ISLAND

Great campsite, fiddle heads for a snack, flat and smooth grassy tent sites, dry, but still 28 Deg. at night. Fishing is slow except for chubs.

A NEW DAY SUN

I forgot to mention that it has been 28 Deg. in the tent the last two nights. Frozen water to start my coffee in the morning. It also snowed the first night. Fishing has been slow. Did not bring my ice fishing gear. After a few runs in white water, I feel confident to leave up my video on the tripod when running them.
